The Delhi High Court ruled universities cannot curb peaceful protests over ideological differences, as Justice Jasmeet Singh set aside Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi student expulsion, calling the punishment highly disproportionate and legally unsustainable.
Students at RGNUL Patiala protested against Vice-Chancellor Singh’s unannounced visit to the girls’ hostel, claiming he violated their privacy. Accusations of inappropriate remarks about female students’ attire further fueled outrage. Although Singh cited complaints as justification, he later apologized, asserting he views the students as his granddaughters.
