CHENNAI: On 4th July: The Madras High Court Advocate’s Association (MHCAA) has unanimously decided to boycott court proceedings on July 8 in protest against the three new criminal laws.

A resolution passed by the MHCAA on Friday called on all members to comply with the decision and avoid participating in any court-related activities on that day. The resolution highlighted the necessity of their support and cooperation for the initiative’s success.

“This collective action demonstrates our strong opposition to the changes that we believe undermine the principles of justice and fairness in our legal system. It is vital that we stand united in this protest to ensure our voices are heard and to bring about meaningful change,”

the resolution stated.

The three new criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act respectively, and took effect on July 1.
