Justice Shree Chandrashekhar was officially sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office at Raj Bhavan, attended by top state officials and dignitaries.
Mumbai: Justice Shree Chandrashekhar was officially sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on Friday.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan during a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan.
Attendees included Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, and State Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, among others.
Earlier, The Ministry of Law and Justice has officially notified that Justice Shree Chandrashekhar has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. The announcement was made by Union Law Minister Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal on X post.
The Minister stated that, under the powers granted by the Constitution of India and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President has approved Justice Chandrashekhar’s elevation.
Justice Chandrashekhar served as a senior judge at the Bombay High Court. His recommendation for the role was confirmed by the Supreme Court Collegium on August 25, 2025.
Justice Shree Chandrashekhar enrolled as an advocate with the Delhi State Bar Council on December 9, 1993, and practiced in both criminal and civil matters. Over 19 years, he handled around 3,500 cases, including 140 reported Supreme Court judgments.
He served as Standing Counsel for the AICTE, State of Jharkhand, Bihar State Housing Board, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand State Electricity Board, ICAR, and various corporations.
He was appointed Additional Judge of Jharkhand High Court on January 17, 2013, became a permanent judge on June 27, 2014, and served as acting Chief Justice on December 29, 2023. He was later transferred to the Rajasthan High Court in July 2024 and then to the Bombay High Court in July 2025.
