NEW DELHI: Today (4th July): Justice Amit Sharma of the Delhi High Court recused himself from hearing bail pleas related to the 2020 Delhi riots. The Bench, led by Justice Prathiba M Singh, directed that these matters be listed before a different bench, excluding Justice Sharma.

The order stated,

“Let these matters be listed before the bench of which one of us (Justice Amit Sharma) is not a member, subject to orders of Hon’ble the Acting Chief Justice.”

The bail pleas include those filed by Sharjeel Imam, Meeran Haider, and others. This marks the third Division Bench to handle these cases, initially managed by Justices Siddharth Mridul and Rajnish Bhatnagar.

Following Justice Mridul’s transfer to the Manipur High Court, Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain took over. With the latest roster change, the case was then assigned to Justices Prathiba M Singh and Amit Sharma, who recused himself today, necessitating the matter to be heard by a fourth bench.
