The Delhi High Court has permitted a private in-camera hearing in actor Celina Jaitly’s petition seeking contact with her brother, a former Indian Army officer allegedly detained in the UAE. The matter will be heard in chambers considering the sensitive nature of the case.

The Delhi High Court has allowed actor Celina Jaitly’s request for an in-camera hearing in a sensitive matter concerning her brother, a former Indian Army officer who is allegedly detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The case was heard by Justice Sachin Datta. Celina Jaitly has filed a petition before the High Court seeking directions to establish contact with her brother, who she claims is being held in the UAE under unclear circumstances.

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Sanjay Jain, appearing for Jaitly, informed the Court that the Delhi High Court Rules permit proceedings to be conducted in-camera, especially in matters involving personal safety, national security concerns, or sensitive family issues.

After considering the submission, Justice Sachin Datta accepted the request and allowed the plea for an in-camera hearing. The Court directed that the matter will be heard privately in chambers instead of open court.

The Court further fixed the time for the in-camera proceedings and directed that the hearing will take place at 2:15 PM.

The order reflects the Court’s recognition of the sensitive nature of the case, particularly since it involves allegations of detention of a former Army officer in a foreign country and concerns raised by a family member seeking communication and clarity.

Further details in the matter are expected to be examined during the chamber hearing.

Background of the Case

Actor Celina Jaitly approached the Delhi High Court after raising serious concerns about the safety and whereabouts of her brother, who is a former officer of the Indian Army. According to her petition, her brother is allegedly being detained in the United Arab Emirates, and the family has been unable to establish proper communication with him.

Jaitly has claimed that despite repeated efforts, she has not received clear information regarding the legal basis, status, or conditions of her brother’s detention. She has also expressed concern over the lack of access to him and the absence of timely updates from the authorities.

In her plea, Jaitly has sought directions from the Delhi High Court to facilitate contact with her brother and ensure that his rights are protected. The petition highlights the emotional distress faced by the family due to prolonged uncertainty and limited communication.

Given the sensitive nature of the allegations, which involve a former Army officer and a foreign jurisdiction, the matter raises issues related to personal liberty, diplomatic engagement, and the protection of Indian citizens abroad.
