Today, On 22nd November, The Karnataka High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Prajwal Revanna in a fourth sexual assault case. Revanna is accused in four cases involving rape, sexual assault, and criminal intimidation. These cases are currently being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police. The court’s decision adds to the legal troubles faced by Revanna as investigations continue.

Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court dismissed an anticipatory bail plea from suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna regarding a fourth case involving sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation.

During the proceedings, Advocate G Arun, representing Revanna, indicated a desire to withdraw the bail plea since a chargesheet had been filed.

However, Justice M Nagaprasanna questioned the timing of the withdrawal, as the case was scheduled for a ruling that day.

The Court clarified that the dismissal of Revanna’s anticipatory bail plea was based solely on the complaint, not on the chargesheet, stating,

“You can rest assured not a word from the chargesheet I have relied on. Only on the complaint. The application has been dismissed only on the basis of the complaint and Supreme Court’s judgments.”

The case, registered by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police in June, marks the fourth instance of sexual assault and harassment allegations against Revanna. The FIR cites Sections 367(2), 354(A), 354(D), 354(B), 506 of the IPC, and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act.

Earlier, on October 21, the Karnataka High Court denied one bail application and two anticipatory bail requests from Revanna concerning three of the four cases against him. On November 11, the Supreme Court also refused to grant him bail after he appealed the Karnataka High Court’s decision.

Prajwal Revanna, a prominent figure with ties to a politically influential family in Karnataka, first came under scrutiny in early 2023 when the initial allegations of rape surfaced. Over the months, more women came forward with similar accusations, leading to the registration of multiple cases against him. The charges span a range of offenses, including physical assault, coercion, and threats of violence.

The SIT was formed to ensure an impartial and thorough investigation, given the high-profile nature of the case and public interest. Investigators have so far collected significant evidence, including testimonies from victims and witnesses, CCTV footage, and forensic reports. These findings have reportedly strengthened the prosecution’s case against Revanna.

The case sparked widespread public outrage, with activists and legal experts calling for swift action to ensure justice. It has also become a point of contention in Karnataka’s political landscape, with rival factions leveraging the controversy to gain political mileage.
