The Delhi High Court designated 85 advocates as Senior Advocates, following a resolution passed by the Full Court on July 9, 2026. The designation was conferred under Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act, 1961, in recognition of the advocates’ standing, ability and contribution to the legal profession.
According to Notification No. 944/SAS/DHC, issued by the Secretariat of the Committee for Designation of Senior Advocate, the decision was approved by the Full Court during its meeting held on July 9, 2026.
Following the resolution, the Chief Justice formally designated the 85 advocates as Senior Advocates. The notification has been signed by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj.
The newly designated Senior Advocates include several prominent names from the Delhi Bar, such as Abhimanyu Mahajan, Amit Gupta, Amit Prasad, Ankur Chhibber, Bahar Uddin, Pavan Duggal, Rakesh Khanna, Shanker Raju, Tejpal Singh Kang, Varun Goswami, Vishal Gosain, Warisha Farasat, among others.
The complete list comprises 85 advocates selected through the High Court’s designation process.
Under Section 16 of the Advocates Act, 1961, the Supreme Court and High Courts may designate an advocate as a Senior Advocate if, by virtue of their ability, standing at the Bar or special knowledge and experience in law, they deserve such distinction.
Senior Advocates are subject to specific restrictions under the Bar Council of India Rules, including limitations on directly filing vakalatnamas or dealing with clients without an instructing advocate.
The latest designations add another significant batch of Senior Advocates to the Delhi High Court, recognising distinguished members of the legal profession for their expertise and contribution to the administration of justice.
