The Delhi High Court referred a copyright dispute between Trimurti Films and B62 Studios over a song in Dhurandhar 2 to mediation. Observing the issue was largely financial, the court directed parties to resolve royalty and compensation through mediation.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday has referred a copyright dispute between Trimurti Films and Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios concerning the song “Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)” in the film Dhurandhar 2 to mediation.
Justice Tushar Rao Gedela observed that the dispute “appeared to be primarily financial in nature” and suggested the parties could resolve matters such as royalty and compensation through mediation. The Court also ordered the appointment of a senior mediator.
Trimurti Films contends that the “Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)” number in Dhurandhar 2 incorporates music from “Tirchi Topiwala” without authorisation. “Tirchi Topiwala,” a popular track from the Sunny Deol film Tridev (1989), was composed by Anand–Milind with lyrics by Anand Bakshi. Trimurti claims ownership of the rights in that song and alleges that Dhurandhar 2’s makers used the track, or a version substantially similar to it, without obtaining the required licence.
Trimurti maintains this use constitutes copyright infringement and objects to the film’s theatrical exploitation, its streaming on digital platforms, and the song’s use in promotional material for Dhurandhar 2.
Senior Advocate Swathi Sukumar, appearing for Trimurti, argued that inclusion of the Tirchi Topiwala music in Dhurandhar 2 and its standalone availability on digital services was unauthorised.
Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, for Super Cassettes (which holds the audio rights in Dhurandhar 2’s songs), opposed interim relief for Trimurti and alleged that Trimurti came to Court with “unclean hands,” suppressing earlier instances where Tridev songs had been used in other films.
Senior Advocate Ravi Prakash, representing B62 Films (the producer), informed the Court that the theatrical release has already occurred and that the film is unlikely to appear on OTT platforms before mid‑May.
Sukumar was briefed by Advocate Arunadri Iyer. Sibal was supported by a team from Ira Law (Partners Aditya Gupta, Asavari Jain and Geethanjali Vishwanathan, and Advocate Shivash Tiwari). Prakash was briefed by DSK Legal (partner Parag Khandhar and Advocates Chandrima Mitra, Anaheeta Verma, Krishan Kumar and Diva Chanchani).
