The Patna High Court has directed Congress to take down an AI-generated video showing PM Modi with his late mother, Heeraben, after a complaint alleged it tarnished their image. The Delhi Police has also filed an FIR in connection with the viral clip.

The Patna High Court has directed the Congress party to remove a 36-second artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video from all its social media platforms. The order came after a complaint was filed claiming that the video damaged the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother Heeraben Modi, as reported by NDTV.

The short video was uploaded by the Bihar unit of Congress on September 10 and, by Wednesday morning, it had already received around 7.1 million views.

In the video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is shown dreaming about his late mother, where she is seen criticising him over his politics in Bihar.

This controversy has come up just ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, which are expected to take place in October or November.

On September 13, the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the same video. The FIR mentions allegations that the clip was meant to harm the image of both the prime minister and his mother.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly criticised Congress over this video and accused the party of showing disrespect towards Heeraben Modi. Union minister Giriraj Singh, who is a Member of Parliament from Begusarai in Bihar, made a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

He said,

“Rahul Gandhi himself does not respect his own mother, then how come he will respect another’s mother?”

PTI quoted Singh as saying this to reporters.

Congress, however, denied any wrongdoing and defended the video. The party maintained that neither the prime minister nor his late mother had been disrespected in the clip.

Pawan Khera, who is the publicity chief of Congress, responded to the criticism by saying,

“What is their objection?”

He added,

“Just because a mother is trying to educate her son to do something right, where is the disrespect? This is neither disrespectful to the mother, whom we respect dearly, nor to the son.”

The matter has now taken a legal turn with the Patna High Court’s direction, the Delhi Police’s FIR, and continued political attacks.
