Bhavani Revanna approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in an abduction case after her application was denied by a special court for cases involving MPs and MLAs on May 31. The special court’s decision prompted Revanna to seek relief from the High Court to avoid arrest. The case has drawn significant attention due to its involvement with a political figure.

Bengaluru: Bhavani Revanna, the wife of former minister and JD(S) leader HD Revanna, approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in an abduction case registered by the KR Nagara police in Mysuru.
The petition expected to be heard in the coming week.
Previously, the special court for cases involving MPs/MLAs rejected Bhavani Revanna’s application for anticipatory bail on May 31. The court observed that the prosecution presented a prima facie case against her.

The special court observed,
“The allegation against the first accused, Revanna, was that he had summoned the victim. Apart from a stray statement that he had called the other accused, there was no other material to indicate his active involvement. However, with respect to the petitioner, Bhavani, the statements of the victim, sister and witnesses corroborate the fact that she had played a specific overt act,”
Separately, the High Court directed the Hassan (Cyber crime) police to produce the investigation papers related to an individual named Sharath in connection with a pen drive distribution case.
This order passed by Justice M Nagaprasanna on a petition filed by Sharath, a resident of Hassan, seeking to have the case against him quashed.
The court instructed the prosecution to present the investigation documents. Justice Nagaprasanna stated,
“Only then can any protective order be issued against the petitioner,’ and scheduled the petition for June 10.”
The counsel for the petitioner submitted that Naveen Gowda is charged as the first accused in this case. The petitioner, Sharath, who is a BJP worker, has been unnecessarily included as the third accused in the case.

Bhavani and seven others, including H D Revanna, under investigation for alleged offenses under Section 364A (kidnapping for ransom) of the Indian Penal Code, which carries a potential life sentence. The investigation centers around claims that they forced a woman, who allegedly been sexually assaulted by Prajwal, to leave her home and go into hiding after videos of the purported incident surfaced in April.
Following this incident, it is imperative for society to contemplate the imperative of creating a safer environment for women and the significance of holding individuals responsible for their behaviour. The case serves as a poignant reminder that no one should be exempt from accountability under the law, irrespective of their status or power.
