NEW DELHI: Rouse Avenue Delhi court has taken action against Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, in response to allegations made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court’s decision comes amidst claims that Kejriwal has consistently avoided appearing before the agency, which has raised concerns regarding a money laundering case linked to the controversial Delhi Excise Policy scam.
The court, led by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Divya Malhotra at Rouse Avenue Court, has formally issued summons to the Chief Minister. The directive requires Kejriwal to present himself before the court on March 16, marking a critical moment in the ongoing legal proceedings.
This legal action follows a new complaint lodged by the ED on March 6. The agency asserts that despite multiple summons, Kejriwal has deliberately chosen not to respond or appear for questioning. This case revolves around the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy, a matter that has attracted significant public and media attention.
The ED’s persistence stems from Kejriwal’s repeated refusals to engage with the agency. Notably, the AAP National Convenor did not comply with the ED’s request to appear for questioning on March 4, marking his eighth absence since the initial summons on November 2, 2023.
In defense, Kejriwal has publicly denounced the ED’s summons, labeling them as “illegal” and “politically motivated.” This statement underlines the growing tension between the Delhi Chief Minister and the central investigative agency, setting the stage for a legal battle that could have far-reaching implications for both political and legal landscapes.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the upcoming court appearance, which could potentially alter the dynamics of Delhi’s political scene and bring new developments in the ongoing investigation into the alleged excise policy scam.
