After initially blaming monkeys for the disappearance of gold jewellery, police closed the probe citing the death of the storeroom in-charge. The closure report has sparked fresh controversy as officials’ names differ from those recorded in earlier court proceedings.
The Allahabad High Court termed the situation “shocking” after records showed that 4,847 people were placed in preventive detention in Prayagraj and Ghaziabad over two years. The Court expressed concern that many detainees remained jailed for days or weeks despite statutory safeguards under the law.
The Allahabad High Court raised concerns over policing and governance in Uttar Pradesh, observing that sections of the police machinery appear more loyal to the ruling establishment than the Constitution. The Court highlighted issues relating to the Gangsters Act, administrative accountability, encounter killings, selective crackdowns, and alleged misuse of police powers.

Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal made the remark after Uttar Pradesh Police failed to follow a Chief Judicial Magistrate’s CCTV production order.
Today, On 11th February, The Supreme Court has cancelled the bail granted to Mazahar Khan, accused of issuing counterfeit degree certificates to lawyers. The Court said the allegations indicate an organised pattern of fabricating and procuring false qualifications, undermining the integrity of the legal profession.
