Today, 30th October, During a Supreme Court hearing on the Delhi riots conspiracy case, the Delhi Police alleged that Umar Khalid and others were playing the victim card over prolonged incarceration, arguing that the trial delay was due to their own conduct, not negligence.
Umar Khalid told the court that he has been in custody for five years even though no violence occurred, no weapons were found, and the chargesheet was embellished by the prosecution, stressing that without evidence, there is no criminality.

The Supreme Court will hear on October 27 the appeals of Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid, Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, and Shifa Ur Rehman challenging the Delhi High Court’s refusal to grant them bail in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.
Umar Khalid’s counsel told a Delhi Court that the 2020 riots case under UAPA rests solely on delayed witness statements, with “no physical evidence, other than one speech,” arguing that the prosecution “doesn’t need evidence, it only needs statements.”
Umar Khalid’s counsel told a Delhi court that he was unfairly named in the 2020 riots conspiracy just for being in WhatsApp groups, while group admins and others in the same position were spared. The case will be heard again on October 14.
Former JNU student Umar Khalid’s counsel told the Delhi court, “I was not present in the main meeting where I supposedly conspired,” citing call records to support his claim. The hearing on framing charges continues, with Khalid among 20 accused in the Special Cell investigation.
Today, On 24th September, Umar Khalid appeared before a Delhi court, claiming, “Entire case cooked up, blatant fabrication of evidence.” He alleged that witnesses have supported what the investigating officer prepared, asserting the case against him is completely fabricated.
