Today, On 7th July, The Supreme Court questioned the DMK over its plea in the Karur stampede case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and the ruling TVK. The Court asked, “You want the Supreme Court to dictate what a chief minister should do?”
The CBI has taken charge of the Karur stampede investigation that claimed 41 lives during Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam rally. The Supreme Court has ordered an impartial probe under a panel led by ex-Justice Ajay Rastogi.
A BJP leader from Tamil Nadu has approached the Supreme Court, seeking a CBI investigation into the September 27 Karur stampede at a TVK rally that killed 41 and injured over 60. The plea also requests higher compensation from the state and TVK leadership.
The Madras High Court has directed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Karur TVK rally stampede that killed 41 people. Earlier, the Madurai bench had refused a CBI investigation, citing the State probe was still in early stages.
