A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court has disposed of a devotee’s 2021 petition over Halal-labelled jaggery used for Sabarimala prasadam, finding from laboratory reports that the jaggery was of satisfactory quality, but saying that the Travancore Devaswom Board ought to have been more careful about markings that could raise an apprehension of conflict with the Temple’s customs. The Board has been directed to exercise due care and to add suitable conditions to its e-tender documents.

The Court noted missing documents, unexplained budget changes, and concerns over financial discipline in the Board’s spending.
The Kerala High Court, while hearing bail pleas in the Sabarimala gold theft case, suggested that the State enact a special law with penal provisions to protect Devaswom and temple properties. The Court said existing manuals only lead to disciplinary action and are not enough to curb repeated misappropriation of temple assets.
