The New Delhi Bar Association advised virtual court appearances on February 21 and 23 due to Bar Council of Delhi elections at Delhi High Court, impacting New Delhi district and Patiala House Courts proceedings.
The New Delhi Bar Association has demanded an increase in the pecuniary jurisdiction of Delhi district courts from Rs 2 crore to Rs 20 crore, citing rising case pendency and outdated limits. The association said this move would speed up trials and ease the burden on the Delhi High Court.
Delhi district court lawyers withdrew their strike after Police Commissioner Satish Golcha assured that police officers will physically appear in courts to give evidence. Bar leaders said their immediate demand was met, though BNSS amendment remains a long-term goal.
