The Supreme Court urged the Centre to introduce a law granting paternity leave as a social security benefit. The Court stressed equal parenting roles while expanding maternity rights for adoptive mothers.
The Bombay High Court granted maternity pay relief to a doctor and emphasised that working women must not be forced to compromise on motherhood. It said, “a woman striving for self-sufficiency should not have to sacrifice her caregiving role.”
The Bombay High Court has held that even women working on temporary or daily-wage basis are entitled to maternity leave benefits. The Court ruled that denying maternity benefits due to short technical breaks in service is arbitrary and illegal.
