The Supreme Court of India asked Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to examine a PIL seeking mechanisms for recovery or destruction of Indians’ stolen personal data allegedly stored on foreign servers amid rising concerns over cybercrime and sensitive information misuse.
CJI Surya Kant has promised strict reforms in the Supreme Court Registry after a petition already dismissed by a three-judge Bench was listed again before another Bench. Calling for accountability, the CJI said Registry officials who “think they are permanent” will face administrative scrutiny.

The Centre has notified the appointment of Justice PB Bajanthri as the new Chief Justice of Patna High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his name for the position earlier on September 11, 2025.

Centre has decided to move ahead with the elevation of Justice Vipul Pancholi, despite Justice BV Nagarathna’s strong opposition. Sources said the government will proceed with the appointment, making clear that her dissent will not stall the process.
