AIBA has urged President Droupadi Murmu to carefully review Justice Yashwant Varma’s resignation during ongoing impeachment proceedings. It warned that accepting the resignation now could weaken accountability and disrupt the constitutional process.
Justice Yashwant Varma withdrew from impeachment proceedings, alleging denial of fairness and due process by the inquiry committee. He claimed burden of proof was reversed without a prima facie case, expressing deep concern over the manner of proceedings.
Om Birla reconstituted a three-member panel to probe the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma after burnt cash was found at his residence. The committee, formed after accepting a multi-party notice against the Allahabad High Court judge, continues impeachment proceedings.
