The Centre constituted a High-Level Committee under retired Supreme Court judge Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar to examine demographic changes allegedly caused by illegal immigration and other unnatural factors, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah stating the panel will also assess the need for a separate law.
A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court for the deportation of illegal immigrants, notably Rohingyas. Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay expressed concern about the urgency of the case, which Justice Surya Kant suggested should be referred to a special bench due to its sensitive nature affecting national security and human rights.
