The Bombay High Court granted temporary protection from arrest to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra while hearing his petition to cancel an FIR related to his comment about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The court noted that arrest was unnecessary under current laws, despite threats Kamra received and issues regarding police conduct.
Kamra told the Court that despite receiving over 500 death threats and requests for virtual questioning, the police were insisting that he appear physically in Mumbai for questioning. Bombay: 8th April: On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court asked the Maharashtra government to reply to a petition filed by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra. Kamra has requested the Court to cancel the First Information Report (FIR) filed against him by the Mumbai Police for calling Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a “gaddar” (traitor) during his comedy show.
