The Supreme Court held that forgery and use of forged documents in judicial proceedings are serious offences but stressed proportional sentencing. The Bench reduced a five-year sentence after considering custody period, case delay, accused’s role and circumstances while maintaining the gravity of the offence.
The Supreme Court dismissed Gujarat’s plea to cancel bail of a 23-year-old accused in the Vadodara crash case. It held that drug consumption alone and non-deliberate offence are not sufficient grounds to deny bail.
Today, On 1st December, The Supreme Court granted bail to a man accused of cheating by pretending to be Amit Shah’s nephew, noting he has already spent years in custody while the trial has barely progressed. The bench said the case’s slow pace justified granting bail now.
