The Allahabad High Court criticised the National Human Rights Commission for allegedly accepting the police version “as gospel truth” while closing the 2009 custodial death case of disabled man Nahar Singh, also known as Sneh, in 2011.
Today, On 18th February, The Delhi High Court scheduled a hearing for March 6 on a plea by expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Sengar. He is challenging his 10-year prison sentence in the custodial death case of the Unnao rape survivor’s father. Sengar was convicted for his role in the case, which sparked nationwide outrage. The court will review his appeal and decide on the matter.
On 27th March: Former Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer Sanjiv Bhatt has been convicted by a Gujarat court in a 28-year-old drug planting case dating back to 1996. The case involved accusations of framing a Rajasthan-based lawyer, and Bhatt’s plea challenging trial completion time was dismissed by the Supreme Court. Previously, he had also been convicted in a custodial death case from 1990.
