A US federal court directed Gautam Adani to file an affidavit by July 15 disclosing whether any promise, offer or agreement was linked to the US Department of Justice’s request to dismiss the criminal indictment against him and seven others in an alleged bribery case.
The Allahabad High Court quashed money laundering proceedings against Tulsiani Construction and its directors, holding that civil and commercial disputes cannot be converted into criminal prosecutions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The Court also set aside the ED’s summoning and attachment actions.
The Telangana High Court held that merely availing the services of a sex worker does not attract prosecution for trafficking under Section 370 IPC, as the provision targets traffickers, not customers. However, a customer can be prosecuted under Section 370A(2) if he knew or had reason to believe the sex worker was a trafficked victim.
The Allahabad High Court quashed criminal proceedings against advocates, holding that lawyers cannot face prosecution for acts performed during professional duties, observing that treating legal representation as criminal conspiracy would undermine the legal profession and citizens’ valuable right to effective legal assistance and defence.
