Supreme Court urges all High Courts to frame rules mandating disclosure of prior criminal cases in bail applications. Also expunges harsh remarks against a judge, calling them “uncalled for” and passed without hearing him.
On Tuesday(16th July),The Supreme Court rebuked its registry for directing a case involving a service dispute and individuals with criminal histories to the Lok Adalat. The case involved an appeal challenging the rejection of a constable position due to nondisclosure of criminal prosecution, upheld by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in August 2019.
The Bombay High Court seeks new psychiatric, psychological, and Probation Welfare Officer’s reports for Sunil Rama Kuchkoravi, convicted of killing his mother and desecrating her organs in Kolhapur in 2017. The court is concurrently reviewing the state’s petition to confirm his death sentence and Kuchkoravi’s appeal against it.
Today(on 20th May), The Supreme Court rejected bail for ex-Samajwadi Party legislator Kamlesh Pathak under Uttar Pradesh’s Gangster Act due to his extensive criminal record. Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish C Sharma emphasized his influence in the region and the severity of the charges. Pathak’s previous bail grants in murder cases did not apply to the Gangster Act charges.
