The Supreme Court of India observed that industrialist Anil Ambani cannot be arrested merely to sensationalise alleged bank fraud cases, stressing that arrest decisions must depend on investigative necessity and remain within the discretion of investigating agencies handling the matter.
The Supreme Court criticised the CBI and ED for their “reluctance” in probing the alleged Rs 73,000 crore fraud involving Anil Ambani Group companies. The Court has now ordered a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation and asked agencies to submit fresh status reports.
The Supreme Court has reserved its order on a plea seeking a court-monitored CBI probe into public works contracts allegedly awarded to firms linked to Arunachal CM Pema Khandu’s family. The Bench has asked all parties to file written submissions within two weeks before deciding on further investigation.
