The Calcutta High Court permitted TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee to file a petition seeking protection from coercive action in a CID probe concerning alleged forgery of legislators’ signatures on a party resolution linked to the appointment of Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay in the Assembly.
The Karnataka government has informed the High Court that the CID will investigate the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that resulted in 11 deaths. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to ensure an independent inquiry, and an FIR has been registered with serious charges under the new criminal law code.
