The Supreme Court of India expressed concern over delays in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence trial, directing lawful measures to secure witnesses’ presence after noting the Uttar Pradesh government failed to explain their non-production before the trial court for nearly two months.
The Supreme Court has permitted Ashish Mishra, accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, to visit his family on weekends, while expediting trial proceedings and streamlining the witness list. Mishra, facing charges for mowing down protesting farmers, had earlier bail restrictions modified, allowing private family visits but prohibiting public engagements.
