The Supreme Court has stayed the Rajasthan High Court’s order that criticised a POCSO court judge for using a “cut, copy, paste” method in her judgment and directed training. Notice has been issued to the State and further action has been halted for now.
The Supreme Court of India acknowledged the significant pressure on judges, leading to inevitable errors, during a ruling on adverse remarks made against a Delhi judicial officer. Despite a target to raise the judge-to-population ratio to 50 per million by 2024, it remains below 25, highlighting the burden on the judiciary.
The Delhi High Court expunged certain adverse observations made by a trial court against the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Court found that the trial court’s comments regarding ED’s IO and the ED’s functioning were unjustified, adding that such remarks have a “deleterious effect” on a public servant’s career.
