NEW DELHI: Today(20th Sept), A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a formal complaint against former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), and a contractor accused of supplying adulterated, non-vegetarian ghee to the sacred Tirupati Temple. The complaint, submitted to the Home Ministry and the Directors General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, raises serious concerns regarding the religious integrity and sanctity of one of Hinduism’s most revered sites.
Complainant advocate Vineet Jindal voiced his concerns, asserting that those involved “are responsible for compromising the religious integrity of the temple” by supplying adulterated, non-vegetarian ghee used in the preparation of the sacred prasadam. The laddoo prasadam, a vital part of the temple’s offerings, holds significant religious value for millions of devotees, and any compromise in its purity is perceived as an affront to their faith.
The complaint states that the acts of adulteration were carried out with full awareness of the potential harm to “the religious sentiments of millions of devotees” and the desecration of the sacred temple. The lawyer underscored the seriousness of this issue, urging authorities to file an FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and to take stringent legal action, including invoking the National Security Act (NSA), against all those involved.

A key element of the complaint is the private laboratory report, which found foreign fats such as “palm oil, fish oil, beef tallow, and lard (pig fat)” in the ghee used at Sri Venkateswara Temple. Managed by TTD, the temple attracts millions of devotees, and the purity of its prasadam is fundamental to their beliefs. The presence of these foreign substances in the ghee not only undermines the religious sanctity of the prasadam but is also viewed as a direct affront to the faith of the devotees.
The complaint further alleges that this adulteration was orchestrated under the leadership of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in collusion with certain TTD officials and the contractor responsible for supplying the substandard ghee. In a more controversial assertion, the lawyer cited accusations from former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who claimed that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government utilized “animal fat and substandard ingredients, instead of pure ghee, to prepare the laddoo prasadam.” Naidu also accused the former TTD Executive Officer, Dharma Reddy, of favoring a Delhi-based company that provided the adulterated ghee.
IIn the complaint, these actions are characterized as a “deliberate and malicious attempt to undermine Hindu faith and the sanctity of the Tirupati Temple.” The lawyer noted that millions of devotees consumed the prasadam with deep faith, only to later learn of the adulteration allegations, leaving them feeling betrayed and profoundly hurt. This sentiment was further intensified by revelations that the prasadam had also been sent to the Ayodhya Ram Temple construction ceremony, where it was distributed to devotees, thus extending the alleged desecration to another highly significant Hindu site.
The lawyer described these actions as an “assault on Hindu sentiments,” calling for an FIR to be registered under sections 152, 192, 196, 298, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He also urged the invocation of the National Security Act (NSA), arguing that this constitutes a mass violation of the “spiritual sanctity cherished by Hindus” and could lead to widespread public unrest, posing a threat to national security.
