NEW DELHI: Today (3rd June): The Supreme Court is set to hear a bail petition tomorrow filed by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who is implicated in an alleged money laundering scam related to the liquor policy case.
After the Delhi High Court rejected his interim and regular bail pleas, Sisodia appealed to the Supreme Court.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and Sandeep Mehta will preside over the matter.
In October 2023, the Supreme Court had previously denied Sisodia’s bail petition in the Delhi Liquor Policy case, allowing him to file a fresh application if the trial was significantly delayed over the next three months.
Sisodia filed both regular and interim bail pleas in the trial court, citing the need to care for his ailing wife. However, the trial court denied these petitions, accusing Sisodia of intentionally delaying the case.
The court, presided over by Justice Kaveri Baweja, noted that Sisodia and other accused individuals frequently submitted various applications and oral requests, some frivolous, in an apparent effort to delay proceedings.
Subsequently, Sisodia challenged the trial court’s decision in the Delhi High Court. On May 21, the High Court rejected his bail plea in both the ED and CBI cases related to the alleged Delhi Liquor Policy scam.
The High Court criticized Sisodia for allegedly fabricating public opinion to his advantage and subverting the excise policy-making process by deviating from the expert committee’s report. The court accused Sisodia of betraying democratic principles and breaking public trust.
Additionally, the High Court concurred with the trial court’s assessment that the delays in the case were caused by Sisodia and his co-accused. It also noted that there were no undue delays by the ED, CBI, or the trial court in the investigation.

Background
Sisodia’s arrest by the CBI on February 26, 2023, followed by subsequent detention in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, has drawn attention to the legal proceedings surrounding the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also arrested Sisodia on March 9 in connection with a money laundering case initiated by the CBI-led investigation.
Despite Sisodia’s bail pleas, the Supreme Court upheld the denial of relief, citing the tentative establishment of a money trail amounting to Rs 338 crore in the corruption and money laundering cases linked to the Delhi liquor policy.
