Today, On 22nd November, Manish Sisodia approached the Supreme Court seeking relaxation of his bail conditions in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The apex court had granted him bail in August 2024 in cases filed by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. These cases are linked to allegations surrounding the now-scrapped policy. Sisodia’s plea aims to modify restrictions imposed during his release.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in response to a plea from former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia.
He is seeking a relaxation of the bail condition that requires him to mark his attendance before the investigating officer every Monday and Thursday.
A bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan stated that the matter would be resolved at the next hearing without any adjournment.

The Court announced,
“Issue notice. Returnable in two weeks,”
Senior Advocate AM Singhvi, representing Sisodia, argued,
“He is a respectable person. He has already appeared 60 times. There is no such condition for any other accused.”
He also requested an earlier hearing date, anticipating that the opposing side would seek an adjournment in the next session.
The bench emphasized,
“We make it clear we will decide the application on the next date.”
In August of this year, the Court granted bail to Manish Sisodia in connection with cases initiated by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to the now-repealed Delhi Excise Policy.
The Court’s decision came after recognizing that the significant delay in the trial infringed upon the right to a speedy trial, which is a component of liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution.
The bail was granted with the following conditions:
- A bail bond of Rs. 10,00,000 with two sureties of the same amount.
- Surrender of his passport.
- Reporting to the investigating officer (IO) every Monday and Thursday between 10-11 AM.
Sisodia requested a relaxation of the reporting condition.
He was in custody from February 26, 2023, until receiving bail in August. The allegations against him and other AAP leaders suggest that the excise policy manipulated to favor specific liquor vendors in exchange for bribes, which were purportedly used to finance the party’s election campaign in Goa.
Before being granted bail in August, Sisodia had submitted multiple bail applications in the case, all of which were denied.
He is represented by advocate Vivek Jain.
