New Delhi: At a special sitting on Sunday, 11 October, the Supreme Court will take up a contempt petition alleging that its order of October 9, concerning blanket restrictions on Delhi Metro and train services, has been violated. [Title of the contempt petition not yet available]
Sitting on that day will be a Bench of Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana.
The Allegation
According to the petition, the Court’s order of October 9 has been breached through blanket restrictions on Delhi Metro and train services. These are the petitioner’s allegations and have not been tested.
The Order Said To Be Breached
As reported, the October 9 order recorded that there shall be no complete prohibition on the movement of Metro and trains in Delhi ahead of the October 10 protests, after the Solicitor General agreed to ask the authorities to reconsider.
The authorities’ response is awaited. No view is expressed on the merits, and the report will be updated after the hearing.
