Today, On 28th November, The Supreme Court criticized the Uttar Pradesh Police during the pre-arrest bail hearing for gangster Anurag Dubey. The Court suggested that Dubey may be avoiding his appearance because he anticipates the police will file another case against him. It questioned the frequent registration of multiple cases and urged the police to act responsibly.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court issued a stern critique of the Uttar Pradesh Police during a hearing concerning a pre-arrest bail petition for gangster Anurag Dubey.
The Court suggested that Dubey may be avoiding surrendering because he anticipates that the UP Police will file additional cases against him.
The Court remarked,
“How many cases will you register? Tell your DGP that we can issue a strict order.”
Additionally, the Court challenged the UP Police’s lawyer on whether the matter was civil or criminal, considering the existence of a sale deed, yet the police continued to allege land grabbing.

The Court stressed the need for the police to be more sensitive, noting that in today’s digital age, direct summons should not be handled in this manner.
The Court instructed that Anurag Dubey must keep his mobile phone turned on and fully cooperate with the investigation. It further ordered that he should not be taken into custody under any circumstances without the Court’s explicit permission, allowing Dubey’s interim bail to remain in effect.
Anurag Dubey is linked to criminal activities in Uttar Pradesh, India. He is the sibling of Anupam Dubey, a well-known gangster with multiple criminal cases against him. In February 2024, the Enforcement Directorate seized assets valued at around Rs. 14.7 crore belonging to Anupam Dubey and his family, including Anurag.

In October 2023, a case initiated against Anurag Dubey, his brother Amit Dubey, and the head of the Mohammadabad block under the Gangster Act. The District Magistrate subsequently ordered the confiscation of their properties, which included a residential house and six shops located near Machhli Tola, amounting to assets worth Rs. 45.55 crore.
Furthermore, in January 2023, Anurag Dubey submitted a writ petition (No. 282 of 2023) to the Allahabad High Court, contesting specific actions taken by the Uttar Pradesh government.
These events highlight Anurag Dubey’s involvement in various criminal activities and ongoing legal challenges in Uttar Pradesh.
