SCAORA’s statement, issued by Honorary Secretary Nikhil Jain, supports the injured and seeks accountability.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) has issued a resolute statement calling for a comprehensive investigation into a recent troubling event at the Ghaziabad court premises in Uttar Pradesh. The incident, which occurred on October 29, 2024, involved “instances of lathi charge on the Advocates” within the court’s vicinity, an action SCAORA strongly condemns and insists “should be forthwith inquired into.”

SCAORA’s statement emphasizes the need for a “fair and impartial investigation into the incident” to uphold the dignity of the legal profession and ensure justice for those involved. They assert that only a transparent and unbiased probe can address the issue effectively. The association has suggested forming a special committee led by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, or his nominee, to oversee the investigation. This recommendation reflects SCAORA’s commitment to an independent inquiry that guarantees accountability.

In addition, SCAORA advocates for collaboration with multiple stakeholders to strengthen the investigation’s credibility and effectiveness. The association’s statement suggests including “members of the Bar Associations” in the investigative process to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that “the dignity of the institution is not compromised at the hands of a few.” This inclusive approach underlines SCAORA’s dedication to preserving judicial integrity and defending the honor of the legal community.

The association’s message concludes with compassion for those affected by the incident, offering “our deepest concern to the injured ones and wish them a speedy recovery.” This expression of empathy reiterates SCAORA’s solidarity with the victims and their commitment to safeguarding the legal community’s rights.

The resolution, signed by Nikhil Jain, Honorary Secretary of SCAORA, on October 30, 2024, reinforces the association’s firm stance on accountability within judicial premises and reflects their support for legal professionals affected by this incident.

By calling for a prompt and thorough investigation, SCAORA aims to restore the sanctity of judicial spaces and ensure that such incidents do not recur. This initiative stands as a powerful reminder of the association’s unwavering commitment to justice, transparency, and the honor of the legal profession.
