Supreme Court Collegium Led By CJI Gavai Recommends Appointment Of 33 Judges To 6 High Courts

In a major step towards bolstering the higher judiciary, the Supreme Court Collegium, during its meeting on July 2, 2025, recommended the appointment of 33 individuals as Judges in six different High Courts. The list comprises both judicial officers and practicing advocates.

Supreme Court Collegium Led By CJI Gavai Recommends Appointment Of 33 Judges To 6 High Courts

NEW DELHI: Over the past two days, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai along with Justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath, conducted interviews with 54 candidates under consideration for appointment as judges in various High Courts across the country.

The interviews, which commenced on Tuesday, July 1, are part of an ongoing effort to fill judicial vacancies in High Courts including Madhya Pradesh, Patna, Allahabad, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gauhati, and Delhi.

The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the the proposal for the appointment of various advocates and judicial officers as judge in different High Courts, after the interview held on July 1st and 2nd, 2025.

Here is the list of recommended candidates:

Advocate: Shri Tuhin Kumar Gedela

The meeting held by the Supreme Court Collegium on 1st July, approved the appointment of Advocate Shri Tuhin Kumar Gedela as a Judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Judicial Officer:

  1. Shail Jain
  2. Madhu Jain and;
  3. Vinod Kumar

  2. Shri Alok Awasthi,

  4. Shri Bhagwati Prasad Sharma,
  5. Shri Pradeep Mittal.

Judicial Officers:

  1. Shri Virinder Aggarwal,
  2. Ms. Mandeep Pannu,
  3. Shri Parmod Goyal,
  4. Ms. Shalini Singh Nagpal,
  5. Shri Amarinder Singh Grewal,
  6. Shri Subhas Mehla,
  7. Shri Surya Partap Singh,
  8. Ms. Rupinderjit Chahal,
  9. Ms. Aradhana Sawhney,
  10. Shri Yashvir Singh Rathor.

Advocate: Shri Anuroop Singhi

Judicial Officer: Smt. Sangeeta Sharma

Advocates:

  2. Shri Chalapathi Rao Suddala,
  3. Shri Vakiti Ramakrishna Reddy,

The Telangana High Court is currently functioning with a strength of 26 judges, as against a sanctioned strength of 42.

  2. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma.

The High Court is currently functioning with 24 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 30.

Additional Judge: Shri Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee

The position of Shri Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee has been changed from Additional Judge to Permanent Judge.
