Supreme Court Rejects BJP Leader Sunil Soren’s Bail in Rape Case: "Must Face Arrest"

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail request of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Soren, who has been accused of raping a woman.

This means he cannot avoid arrest and must face legal proceedings.

A team of judges, including Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice K.V. Viswanathan, pointed out that the case against Soren has been pending since 2022. They made it clear that he cannot keep avoiding arrest and must follow the legal process.

“Your case has been committed before trial court in 2022. You can’t evade the arrest like this. You have to respect court proceedings. Sorry, dismissed,”

-the Court said.

Justice Trivedi also mentioned that the Jharkhand High Court had already denied Soren’s anticipatory bail three times before.

“The plea was rejected three times earlier. What is the status of the investigation? The complaint dates back to 2017 — why has it remained pending? Were you absconding?”

The Court further stated that Soren must appear before the trial court. Because of this, the Court refused to grant him any relief from arrest.

The complaint against Soren has been in the legal system since 2017. The woman who accused him has alleged that he sexually abused her, and later, she gave birth to a child.

She has also claimed that Soren had made a promise to marry her,

“but he did not do so and continued to sexually abuse her.”

Now, with the Supreme Court rejecting his bail plea, Soren will have to face trial and answer the charges in court.
