Supreme Court Bar Association Urges Secretary General For Removal of Wi-Fi Vendor Over Poor Connectivity Issues

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has sent a reminder to the Secretary General of the Supreme Court of India, urging them to address the ongoing issue of poor Wi-Fi services within the court premises.

In a letter dated 8th January 2025, the SCBA expressed its dissatisfaction, stating that despite repeated requests, no action has been taken regarding the concerns raised earlier through a letter dated 27th September 2024.

The SCBA highlighted the inconvenience faced by its members and advocates due to the unreliable Wi-Fi services in areas such as the Libraries, Lounges, Ladies Bar Room, and Corridors. They pointed out that these connectivity issues are hindering their ability to perform online work efficiently.

The letter notes,

“Many members/advocates have complained to the undersigned about the difficulties they are facing in doing their online work on laptops and mobiles.”

In a strong statement, the SCBA questioned the role of the current service provider, saying,

“Despite repeated requests, the Wi-Fi connectivity problem persists. In light of this, it is imperative to change the service provider/vendor.”

The association also raised concerns about the handling of the issue by the Registry staff, commenting,

“It is very strange that the manner in which the Registry staff is espousing the present vendor raises the eyebrows.”

The SCBA has urged the administration to take immediate action, stating,

“You are, therefore, requested to kindly remove the existing service provider in the Supreme Court premises for the convenience of the members of the Bar and in Administrative Buildings Complex.”

This appeal has been signed by Vikrant Yadav, the Honorary Secretary of the SCBA, and Nikhil Jain, the Honorary Secretary of the SCAORA. Copies of the letter have been sent to other relevant officials, including the O.S.D. cum Secretary General (Designate) and the Registrar (Administration) of the Supreme Court of India, for necessary follow-up and resolution.
