The Supreme Court of India has revoked bail for three accused in the murder of former sarpanch Dinesh Kumar Yadav, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and the risk to witnesses. The murder, linked to political rivalry and planned assassination, occurred on May 31, 2023. The court mandated immediate surrender and expedited trial proceedings.

New Delhi: In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court of India has set aside the bail granted by the Rajasthan High Court to three accused in the brutal murder of former village sarpanch Dinesh Kumar Yadav. The murder, which took place in Neemrana, Rajasthan on May 31, 2023, shocked the community and attracted widespread media attention. The Supreme Court’s bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, ruled in favor of the victim’s family, directing the accused — Abhimanyu alias Pintu, Jaiveer, and Satya alias Chinnya — to surrender immediately.

The case had previously seen the Rajasthan High Court grant bail to the accused on July 8, 2023. However, the Supreme Court’s intervention overturned this decision after hearing the submissions made by advocate Ronak Karanpuria, representing Roopesh Kumar, the brother of the murdered man. Karanpuria argued that the high court had made an error in granting bail, stating that the seriousness of the crime and the premeditated nature of the murder were not adequately considered.

The Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna emphasized the gravity of the crime, noting the evidence of a premeditated conspiracy. He also pointed out the potential threat to witnesses, which could arise if the accused were allowed to remain free. As a result, the Supreme Court directed the accused to surrender and ordered the lower court to expedite the trial proceedings.

In his arguments, Karanpuria highlighted that the murder was not a random act of violence but a carefully planned assassination tied to political rivalry and disputes over illegal land encroachments. On the morning of the tragic incident, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, the former sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Silapur, was ploughing a field near a well when he was shot multiple times by assailants. His brother, Roopesh, who was a witness to the attack, immediately identified the shooters as Abhimanyu, Jaiveer, and Satya, and named them as conspirators in his complaint.

The investigation revealed that the murder was meticulously planned after several previous failed attempts on Dinesh’s life. According to police reports, the accused allegedly hired shooters, Sachin and Yashpal, and paid them Rs 23,000 for their services. The shooters reportedly used a stolen motorcycle to escape after carrying out the murder.

Despite being rushed to Kailash Hospital in Behror, Dinesh Kumar Yadav succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind his grieving family. The police investigation further suggested that the murder was politically motivated, as Yadav had been involved in local disputes over illegal encroachments.

The Supreme Court’s intervention has brought significant attention to this case, underscoring the importance of judicial scrutiny in high-profile criminal cases. The trial proceedings are expected to move swiftly now that the accused have been ordered to surrender. The Supreme Court has also left room for the accused to apply for bail again in the future, but only if there are substantial changes in circumstances or delays in the trial that are not attributable to them.

This case serves as a reminder of the increasing prevalence of politically motivated violence in India and the vital role of the legal system in upholding justice for victims and their families. The Supreme Court’s ruling has offered a glimmer of hope for those seeking justice for the cold-blooded killing of Dinesh Kumar Yadav.
