The Supreme Court has renamed its traditional summer vacations as “partial court working days.”
This change is part of an amendment to the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, now referred to as the Supreme Court (Second Amendment) Rules, 2024, which was notified on November 5.
The notification stated,
“The length of the partial court working days and the number of holidays for the court and the offices of the court shall be such as may be fixed by the Chief Justice and notified in the official gazette so as not to exceed 95 days excluding Sundays,”
Previously, the Supreme Court observed summer and winter breaks each year, although it was not completely closed during these times.
During the summer, the Chief Justice would establish “vacation benches” to address important and urgent matters.
