He reaffirmed this rule during Monday’s session, stating,
“Senior lawyers are not allowed to argue in my court. I made this very clear last year, and it still stands.”
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, present at the session, deferred to his junior lawyer to argue the case. Singhvi remarked that he wished this rule was applied in all courts.
In response, Justice Nath asserted his authority by saying,
“I’m the master of my court. I can’t control other courts.”
When both sides had senior lawyers present, Justice Nath instructed them to let their junior colleagues take over, saying,

“Both of you take your seats and let your colleague argue.”
In a lighthearted moment, he advised junior lawyers not to pay the senior lawyers for the hearing.
“Don’t give fees to seniors, alright. If you have given, take it back,” he joked.
Justice Nath’s rule is designed to provide junior lawyers with more opportunities to gain experience during vacation hearings.
