The Supreme Court of India agreed to urgently hear TVK MLA R Seenivasa Sethupathi’s plea challenging the Madras High Court order restraining him from voting or participating in Tamil Nadu Assembly floor tests, after Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi sought urgent listing before CJI Surya Kant.
During the heated Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing, CJI Surya Kant dismissed Kapil Sibal’s warning about possible law and order issues and allowed phased publication of voter rolls. The Supreme Court also rejected objections raised by Abhishek Manu Singhvi and backed the Election Commission.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi urged the Supreme Court to involve scientific and technical experts in the stray dogs case, warning against purely legal decision-making. He cautioned that interim judicial orders without domain expertise could lead to irreversible consequences, as seen in the Aravalli Hills matter.
The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana’s Privilege Committee has given a clean chit to 17 lawyers and M3M directors in the alleged bench hunting case before the High Court, citing no evidence of wrongdoing. The committee said media reports misrepresented the court proceedings and found “no mala fide intent” among those involved.
