PUNE: The Pune police are planning to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the Bombay High Court’s decision to release a 17-year-old boy allegedly involved in a fatal Porsche car accident. This decision follows a high-profile case where two IT professionals lost their lives. A senior official confirmed this today(on 1st July).
On June 25, the Bombay High Court directed the immediate release of the boy, stating that the Juvenile Justice Board’s orders to remand him to an observation home were illegal. The court emphasized that the law regarding juveniles must be implemented fully.
“The Juvenile Justice Board’s decision to remand him to an observation home was deemed unlawful, emphasizing the full enforcement of juvenile justice laws.”
-the High Court stated.
The teenager, who was granted bail just hours after the accident on May 19, was sent to the observation home in Pune three days later following public outrage over the incident.
The High Court’s order came after the boy’s paternal aunt filed a petition claiming that he was being illegally detained. The court then ordered his immediate release from the observation home and handed his custody over to his aunt.
The police maintain that the teen was under the influence of alcohol while driving his father’s luxury car when the accident occurred. The vehicle hit a two-wheeler in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune in the early hours of May 19, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals.

“The Pune police plan to appeal to the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court’s decision.”
-he said on Monday.
A Pune court is set to deliver its verdict on the bail plea of the father and grandfather of a juvenile involved in a controversial accident case. The hearing, scheduled for Monday, pertains to charges of alleged kidnapping and wrongful confinement of the family’s driver, who was reportedly coerced into accepting blame for the accident.
The incident in question occurred in the early hours of May 19, leading to a series of legal entanglements for the juvenile’s family. Following the accident, the boy was promptly granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on the same day.
The bail conditions mandated that the juvenile remain under the “care and supervision of his parents and grandfather.” Additionally, the JJB required the boy to “write a 300-word essay on road safety” as part of the bail conditions. The initial leniency shown in the bail order sparked widespread public outrage. In response, the police filed an application before the JJB, seeking a revision of the bail terms. The swift grant of bail was seen by many as a miscarriage of justice, prompting calls for stricter measures.
Amendment of Bail Order– On May 22, the JJB revised its earlier decision, ordering the boy to be “taken into custody” and remanding him to an observation home. This decision came after careful consideration of the police’s application and the growing public dissatisfaction with the initial lenient terms.

Allegations Against Family Members – The juvenile’s parents and grandfather are currently incarcerated in connection with two separate but related cases. One case involves the alleged swapping of the boy’s blood samples to mislead the investigation, while the other pertains to the alleged kidnapping and wrongful confinement of the family’s driver. The driver was allegedly “threatened to take the blame” for the accident, a charge that has added a serious dimension to the family’s legal troubles.
