New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has dismissed a plea filed by actor Pavithra Gowda, who is one of the accused in the Renukaswamy murder case along with Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and five others.

Pavithra had asked the apex court to review its earlier decision dated August 14, 2025, which had cancelled the bail granted to her and the other accused.

A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan heard the matter and, after examining the records, found no reason to change its earlier ruling.

The court stated,

“These review petitions have been filed by the petitioner seeking review of the Order dated 14-8-2025 passed in the captioned Criminal Appeals, whereby the appeals filed by the State of Karnataka were allowed. We have carefully gone through the said Order and the record. In our opinion, no case for review is made out. Consequently, the review petitions are dismissed.”

Earlier, on August 14, 2025, the Supreme Court had cancelled the bail of Pavithra Gowda, Darshan, and five other accused persons.

This decision had overturned the Karnataka High Court’s order from December 2024, which had granted them bail in the Renukaswamy murder case.

While setting aside the High Court’s decision, the Supreme Court had observed that the High Court had

“overlooked serious evidence” and had relied on “inadequate grounds contrary to established legal principles in murder cases.”

The apex court found that the reasons given by the High Court were not convincing or in line with the seriousness of the crime.

The Supreme Court also took note of disturbing details from the investigation. The bench mentioned that, as per the records, actor Darshan had made

“clear attempts to interfere with the investigation, including being involved in arranging false surrenders by co-accused persons, making payments to conceal the crime, and leveraging connections with police to manipulate the FIR and postmortem process.”

The Renukaswamy murder case has drawn significant public attention in Karnataka. The case involves the murder of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old resident of Chitradurga, whose body was found in Bengaluru’s Kamakshipalya area on June 9, 2024.

Following the investigation, Darshan Thoogudeepa, Pavithra Gowda, and six others were named in the chargesheet by the Karnataka Police.

The Supreme Court’s latest decision now means that Pavithra Gowda will remain in custody, as her plea to review and reconsider the cancellation of bail has been firmly rejected.

The apex court’s stand reaffirms its earlier position that the gravity of the offence and the attempts to obstruct justice must be given serious consideration before granting bail in a murder case.
