CJI Chandrachud remarked to the petitioner.

The Supreme Court’s decision underscores the importance of maintaining high standards in the legal profession. The current passing marks are set at 45% for general category candidates and 40% for SC/ST candidates.

The court’s ruling follows recent data revealing that over 50% of candidates failed the 2023 AIBE, highlighting the exam’s rigorous nature. By upholding the existing cut-off scores, the Supreme Court aims to ensure that only qualified individuals are admitted to practice law, thereby preserving the quality of legal services provided to the public.
