New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has taken strict action in a matter involving illegal constructions and encroachments on government land.

The Court has directed the authorities to remove all unlawful buildings and structures from more than 4 bighas of public land in Khasra Number 279 of Okhla village, situated in Delhi.

This decision came during the hearing of a petition related to the encroachments on this specific piece of land.

The bench, while expressing concern over the continued illegal occupation, made it clear that public land must be kept free from unauthorized possession.

The apex court firmly stated that the land in question is public property and must be used only for the welfare of the public.

The Court observed that no one has the right to build or occupy such land without proper legal sanction.

“It is the duty of the authorities to ensure that public land is not encroached upon and is used for public purposes only.”

The Supreme Court underlined that the unauthorized buildings standing on the land must be removed without any delay.

The Court said,

“Encroachments on public land cannot be allowed to remain, and the rule of law must be upheld.”

The bench emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and following the law in such matters.

It added,

“If such encroachments are allowed to continue, it will send a wrong message and encourage others to do the same.”

The Court also directed that an official report must be submitted to confirm that the land has been cleared as per the Court’s orders.

“The authorities must file a compliance report after ensuring that the land is free from all unlawful constructions.”

This move by the Supreme Court shows its commitment towards protecting government lands from illegal occupation and ensuring they are used in the best interest of the public.

The Court concluded by saying,

“Public land is meant for the benefit of the community and must be safeguarded from unlawful possession.”
