NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India announced an important change regarding the working schedule of its Registry offices. Starting from July 14, 2025, the Registry offices of the Supreme Court will remain open on all Saturdays.

This decision was officially shared on Monday and is aimed at improving the efficiency and accessibility of the Court’s administrative functioning.

This change has been made through a formal notification that received the President of India’s approval under Article 145 of the Constitution. The notification includes amendments to Order II of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013.

Because of this amendment, the earlier sentence written in the Supreme Court’s official calendar for the year 2025, which said,

“Registry will remain closed on 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month”,

-has now been removed.

With the new rule in place, the Court offices will now remain open on all Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

However, the Court has clearly stated that no work will be accepted after 12 noon, “unless of an urgent nature”. This means only urgent matters will be taken up after that time on Saturdays.

The amended Rule 3 also adds more clarity about the working of Court offices. It explains that even on days when the Court is partially working, the Registry offices will remain open.

Additionally, the offices will be operational even during the Court’s Christmas and New Year vacations, but only “at such times as the Chief Justice may direct.”
