The Supreme Court has adjourned the NEET PG 2025 transparency plea, leaving aspirants uncertain about counselling schedules. Petitioners claim the exam process is “opaque” and seek full disclosure of questions, answers, and marks.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has adjourned the hearing on an important case linked to transparency in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025.
The matter, which was supposed to be heard today, will now come up after two weeks, according to media reports. This delay has once again left thousands of medical aspirants uncertain about the timelines for counselling and admissions.
Case Background
This case was first listed for October 2025, but due to increasing concerns about delayed counselling and lack of clarity in the exam process, the Supreme Court decided to fast-track the matter.

The first hearing was taken up on September 4, and later on September 12. However, instead of moving towards a conclusion, today’s scheduled hearing has been postponed again, which only prolongs the wait for much-needed clarity.
The Petitioners’ Argument
The petitioners have challenged a corrective notice issued by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on August 21.
Initially, the NBEMS had promised that it would release the full set of NEET PG 2025 questions along with the official answer key. But later, it issued only question ID numbers instead of the actual questions and answers.

Since NEET PG questions and options are shuffled differently for every candidate, aspirants have argued that this method makes it impossible for them to properly check their answers.
The plea stated:
“The format is opaque and denies candidates the transparency that is the cornerstone of a fair examination process.”
What Petitioners Want
The petitioners have clarified that they are not asking for re-evaluation of their papers. Instead, they only want a fair and transparent disclosure of:
- Questions asked
- Responses marked by candidates
- Correct answers
- Marks awarded
According to them, this step is essential to build trust in the evaluation process.
Impact on Students and Admissions
With today’s adjournment, the future of NEET PG counselling remains uncertain. Students preparing for postgraduate medical admissions are once again left in limbo, unsure about when the counselling process will finally begin.
Legal experts believe that this case is not just about technicalities, but about ensuring fairness and trust in one of India’s most important entrance exams.
They note that:
- A timely decision is crucial to avoid chaos in the admission process.
- Transparency is a basic right of students appearing in such high-stakes exams.
As one expert put it, a quick resolution is vital to ensure
“both transparency and the smooth conduct of admissions across postgraduate medical courses in India.”
