Amritpal Singh’s lawyer confirms plans to challenge NSA detention in Supreme Court next week.
The MP is currently lodged in Assam jail under the National Security Act.
Chandigarh: Today, on July 22, in a significant development related to Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh, his legal team has announced that they will soon move the Supreme Court to challenge his arrest under the National Security Act (NSA).
Advocate Imaan Singh Khara, who is representing Amritpal Singh, said that a petition will be filed in the Supreme Court next week against the NSA charges.

Amritpal Singh is currently being kept in a jail in Assam. His legal team believes that his detention under the NSA is not justified and they are now planning to ask for relief from the highest court in the country.
Advocate Imaan Singh Khara said,
“A petition will be filed in the apex court next week challenging the NSA charges.”
The legal team is hoping that the Supreme Court will review the case carefully and provide justice to Amritpal Singh.
They have not yet shared all the details of the petition but have made it clear that their focus will be on how the NSA has been used in this situation.
Background of the Case
Amritpal Singh, a Member of Parliament, was earlier arrested and detained under the National Security Act (NSA), which allows authorities to keep someone in custody without regular court proceedings if they are seen as a threat to national security.

After his detention, he was moved to a jail in Assam, far from his home state Punjab.
Since then, his legal team has been working to get him released and now they have decided to take the matter to the Supreme Court of India.
