The Supreme Court will hear on July 28 a petition questioning if the government can fix a 15-year limit for BS VI petrol and 10 years for diesel vehicles in NCR, overriding previous pollution control directives.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear on July 28 a petition challenging whether BS VI-compliant vehicles should have a lifespan of 15 years for petrol variants and 10 years for diesel variants in the National Capital Region.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran decided to take up the plea after a counsel requested urgent listing, arguing that the government cannot override the court’s previous directives on pollution control.

The counsel stated that the government cannot change the limits established by the Supreme Court for reducing vehicular emissions to address pollution in Delhi.
